As indicated by the caption, this 1927 image shows the most "modern" work commissioned by Clarence Mackay for his renowned collection, "Theseus and Ariadne," that was carved from limestone by Paul Manship Born. The mansion can be seen in the background. A close up view of "Theseus and Ariadne" has also been placed here in the Library. A color image showing another close up view of a damaged "Theseus and Ariadne" has also been placed here in the Library.

The caption accompanying this image reads as follows:

In preparation for a dinner-dance he was to host in honor af Charles Lindbergh, the acclaimed aviator, clarance [sic] Mackay commissioned the most 'modern' work in his renowned collection. "Theseus and Ariadne", was carved from limestone by Paul Manship Born, whose ventures toward the new, entailed evoking archaic Greek sculpture.

Obviously, "af" and "clarance" are typographical errors that should have been "of" and "Clarence" instead.
