Alan Severance (US7041) shared the scrapbook copy he keeps originally created by Elvira Lorrain Foster Smith (US1843). Here are some pertinent comments made by Alan from emails sent in early March 2023:
Not long after they were married she went with Henry to Fort Howard, in the American frontier. It must have been a bit of a shock for wealthy Watertown society girl. I think making the scrap book there was an effort to keep connected to a wider world.
I find the scrap book revealing about her, her wide and varied interests and obviously good education. She certainly had guts living in a fort where you could not leave without a military escort.
Things to keep in mind;
Scrap book files are copies of copies of the original, there for some deterioration is inevitable. Also my camera equipment is any thing but professional.
Files named 26726205-2 to -9 are files from the seller’s web site and so give you a comparison. (They are toward the end of this file)
File order is approximately correct. The scanned reproductions were loose, and in photographing so many I lost the exact sequence. Other wise it is pretty close.
You will see a few repeats in the first E-Mails. Once I got on a role, it went smoother. I do not think any files were omitted.
