Marcus Hungerford (SH256) wrote a letter dated 29 Sep 1840 to his brother Richard Esselstyne Hungerford (SH257). He discussed reading a political paper (Log Cabin) and chided his brother about his political affiliations (Loco Focos--a member of a radical group of New York Democrats organized in 1835 in opposition to the regular party organization). He mentions the name of a friend who will be travelling and gives Richard an idea of when "Hopkins" will be in Utica which will allow Richard to catch up on the latest as Marcus couldn't write all the news in the letter. He mentions filling out a memoranda which may be an invoice and also mentions their father Orville Hungerford (SH90) will "most likely" be heading for New York (City) Friday morning. He concludes the main portion of the letter with mention of a Utica hotel Hopkins may be at should Richard hasten to get there.

He has a post script giving some political results in an election.

A transcription is included.
