This letter is a quick note in response to one his son wrote and had hand-delivered by his mother to his father the doctor. During the Vietnam conflict every man in the military, if assigned Vietnam duty, had to be there for one year. Towards the end of that time they could go on "R. & R." (Rest & Recuperation.) My mother flew to Japan to meet with him and that facilitated his receiving the letter to which this note is the reply.
