This letter from a father in Vietnam to his son mentions how proud he is the son Ricky (US26) joined the Boy Scouts and is also learning to swim. Dr. Hungerford also mentions that he thought Ricky was generous in giving his friend Mark Davis one of the two ribbons he won in a picnic race held by Mather AFB in California where the family was living and waiting for the doctor to come home. As a sad side note--Mark's father, Charlie B. Davis, would be shot down over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos on April 22, 1970 and be declared MIA. It wouldn't be until much later that remains were identified as his and he was declared dead and buried with full military honors.
