  • A Lease of the Wilcox Tavern for 999 Years: We ran across this interesting story about a 999 year lease that was sold by Dorothy Hungerford, the niece of Helen Churchill Hungerford who was a passenger on the RMS Titanic and was the subject of our article in last quarter’s edition of The Hungerford World Tree.

  • Esther and Dorothy Hungerford & the Wilcox Tavern: We describe some of the the Hungerford history with the Tavern.

  • The Will of Lady Joan Hussey, second wife of Sir Thomas Hungerford: We have transcribed Lady Joan Hungerford’s will as set forth in the Jackson Papers and found surprises during our research.

  • Collaboration of THFFI with The Wilt-shire Museum and the Hungerford and Associated Families Society: THFFI is working with The Wiltshire Museum and the Hungerford and Associated Families Society (HAFS). We update our readers on that collaboration.

  • About the Wiltshire Museum Collection and Preservation Concerns: The Wiltshire Museum has two large fireproof safes for storing valuable/unique material, but they are full and there is no room for the quite extensive Jackson volumes housed in a glass-fronted wooden cabinet, in a room which that has smoke alarms but does not have sprinklers since the water would cause serious if not irreparable damage to the books and archive papers. We quote from an email articulating those concerns and the need to raise funds to protect the collection.

  • Colonel John Houlton and Farleigh House: Colonel John Houlton inherited the Farleigh Hungerford estate and Farleigh House in 1806 from Joseph Houlton the Younger. Joseph Houlton, the father of Joseph Houlton the Younger and a Trowbridge clothier, had purchased the Farleigh Hungerford estate in 1702. We review Houlton’s extensive renovations of Farleigh House and its subsequent history.

  • Bath Lodge Hotel and Castle: One of the Farleigh House lodges was called the Castle Lodge and is now known as the Bath Lodge Hotel. We introduce Bath Lodge Castle to our readers.

  • The Quarterly Nugget: If you peruse the Notes in the profiles of Adam Fitz John (OT7) and his daughter Elizabeth Fitz John (EN5spouse1) the wife of Sir Thomas Hungerford (EN5), you will find that the question is posed “Who is Adam Fitz John?” and you will also find some re-searchers even questioning the existence of Adam Fitz John. We quote from a document that we found verifying his existence.

  • The Many Thomas Hungerfords: We announce a change in our approach to publishing Canon Jackson’s references to Thomas Hungerford in the Jackson Papers.

  • Notable Library Additions: Several notable books and vital records have been added to the Library. We list the most important of them for you.
