I asked this on the THFFI Facebook site (as well as the Hungerford Club 3000 site). It gives some background.
A question for our sharp-eyed members. A little background first. I purchased a while ago 14 stereoscopic (also called stereoview) photos on eBay. The story behind this purchase is one of serendipity.
On 26 Oct 1956 in Watertown, New York, a great aunt of mine (Harriet “Hattie” Rosa Hungerford SH257c) passed away. This is her sitting in a goat cart – one of the 14 images purchased. Sometime after her passing--as a part of the last steps in closing out her estate-- an estate sale was held. As a young lad the eBay seller accompanied his mother to this sale and witnessed her buying these family heirlooms.
Fast forward some sixty odd years and he inherited her possessions--which still included these photos! I was lucky enough to be perusing eBay when he offered them on the auction website and I snapped them up. What are the odds?
Back to my question. Can anyone make out the first word of the second line? On the top line I see H. C. Hungerford (which stands for, I believe, Harriet (nee Cooper) Hungerford SH257spouse2.) The second line reads: ____ Anna (written over a slightly different name?) & Charlie. It then gives us No. 6 and the date—Dec 25th (18)74. The date is handy as it rules out H. C. Hungerford being the daughter Helen Cooper Hungerford (SH257b) as she was only six years old at the time.
So—what is that first word. Also—can anyone discern what the name was that was over-written with “Anna”? These photos can be found in the THFFI database. We are adding items like this all the time.
