John Stanhope Arkwright is the focus of the letter's author regarding his winning the Newdigate prize from Oxford.  It reports:

My dear Jack,

I find I shall be able to run up for your recitation--very many congrats on your success--Will you give me a line (by return, if possible) to tell the hour --Wednesday is the day?

In haste your affectionate Uncle

E, B. Haselleshaw
Weston street

21 June

I have only just been able to say I can go.
