John Hungerford Arkwright (EN912) received a letter from a Mary Scott.  It reads: Saturday.  Dear Mr. Arkwright,

It was very stupid of me not to have sent you my sister-in-law's address, but I thought you knew it.  6 Talbot Sqre, Hyde Park.  Before going any further let me offer you & Mrs. Arkwright out most hearty congratulations, you have indeed every reason to be proud of your son, having distinguished himself by obtaining the 'Newdigate Prize'.  We were very sorry not to see you in town, I hope next time you come to landon we shall have the pleasure of seeing you.  We went to the Private View yesterday & were not impressed by the pictures with one exception yours! which we thought - excellent - in fact the only picture worth seeing in the Academy!  After that--I will say no more, but only add our best love.  Yrs very sincerely,  Mary Scott.   (Written sideways)  So sorry to hear that Mrs. Arkwright has been ill & hope she will soon be all right--please give her my best love.
