Mr. Roberts wrote to John Stanhope Arkwright saying this:
My dear Sir,
I regret to learn of the heavy loss which you have just sustained and trust I may be allowed to express my profound sympathy in your bereavement--I know what it is to lose a good mother (& father too) so can better appreciate your irretrievable loss.
