This is the third quarter, 2016 THFFI Newsletter, "The Hungerford World Tree."

In This Issue:

  • Website update: refinements continue. We will be adding a site statistics page shortly that will show the number of Hungerford descendants, companies, places, etc. The numbers will be dynamic, meaning that the numbers will change each time there are additions to any of the databases. There are now more than 48,000 individuals in the Surnames Database.

  • Website search tips: with this issue, we begin offering tips about using the THFFI website databases. This first tip discusses the search function in the Surnames Database.

  • Sharon S. Atkins: Sharon S. Atkins is an author who has published a book titled With A Heart for Any Fate, historical memoir based upon diaries written by Hazel Hungerford Howland from 1908-1920. The book is available to members of THFFI at a 20% discount.

  • Marion (Trainor) Hungerford: Marion Hungerford’s boyfriend went on an armed crime spree of seven robberies in Montana in which she participated by encouraging the robberies and providing a getaway car. Described in court papers as being “profoundly mentally disabled,” Marion refused a plea bargain, was found guilty by a jury, and was sentenced to a 159-year sentence, while her accomplice had been given a 32-year sentence. We repeat what the court of appeals had to say about her sentence and relate how her sentence was reduced eventually.

  • A June 26, 2002 letter from Catherine (Lewis) Jestin (1920-2004) to Stanley W. Hungerford: This one-page letter written after Stanley published his books, supplemented by four pages providing a continuous line from Elizabeth Hungerford, daughter of Thomas Hungerford and Susannah Becher. The information in this letter informs us of more than 50 new Hungerford descendants who did not make it into Stanley’s Hungerford genealogy. A copy of the letter accompanies this newsletter.

  • The Quarterly Quiz: This quiz asks you whether you know the name of the Vice President of the United States who is descended from a Hungerford. We know the answer, do you? If so, be the first to give us the answer and win.

  • Answer to & winner of the last Quarterly Mystery.

  • The Quarterly Mystery: This question is about A. S. Hungerford, DDS, a dentist to the Shah of Persia. We don’t know the answer, do you? If so, be the first to solve it and win.
