This document is the Calendar of the Patent Rolls, 9 Edward I, A.D. 1272-1281, published by authority of her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department and printed for her Majesty's Stationery Office by Eyre and Spottiswoode, printers to the Queen's most excellent majesty (1901).

The document has one entry mentioning Hungerford twice at Membrane 19, page 436 as follows:

May 20, 1281 Westminster. Inspeximus and confirmation of a charter of Edmond, the king's brother, dated at London, 20 May, 9 Edward I. being a ratification of the grant in frank almoin made by Simon de Monteforti, ate earl of Leicester, to the hospital and fraternity of St. John, Hungerford, for lodging poor, sick and infirm persons of the half virgate of land formerly held by William le Brodden of him in villeinage in Sandone, with a meadow of his demesne near his stank on the north side in Hungerford. Witnesses: - William de Vesey, Richard Fukeran, Laurence de Sancto Mauro, Ralph his brother, William de Kughenbo and Alan de Waldesepf, knights, Hugh de Viennna, John Russelli, clerks, and others.

Signification to the bishop of Chichester of the royal assent to the election of Henry de Aylesford, prior of Battle, to be abbot of that house.

Mandate to G. de Rockesle and Orlandinus de Podio, keepers of the exchange of Longon, to let Master William de Luda, keeper of the wardrobe, have 2,000l. for the expenses of the household.
