Handwritten letter to James K. Polk signed by Jefferson Davis and 23 other Congressmen from New York, Louisiana & Mississippi, dated February 20, 1846.  Notable signatures include: Robert W. Roberts, Steven Adams, John H. Harmanson, Emile La Sere, William W. Woodworth, George Rathbun, Preston King, Charles S. Benton, Charles Goodyear, William Collins, John De Mott, Samuel Gordon, Stephen Strong, Joseph Russell, Timothy Jenkins, William Hough, Orville Hungerford, Joseph H. Anderson.  The letter requests a promotion be granted to an officer in the military due, in part, to his gallantry during a battle in the War of 1812. It also lists a number of other men who were recently promoted. Measures 8" x 10".
