This documents is a 2 page, hand written letter dated 31 May 1975 from Clara Hungerford, wife of Austen Hungerford to Stanley W. Hungerford. The letter is accompanied by 2 hand written pages of names and dates of birth, marriage and deaths taken from the family bible. The letter also is accompanied by a newspaper clipping "Four Generations of the Hungerford Family of this City" (apparently published by a newspaper in DeWitt, Onondaga County, New York, USA since the clipping mentions Onondaga as well as Jamesville, a hamlet in the town of DeWitt).
The letter discusses Austen's parents Edward Hobart Hungerford and Mary Ann Shattuck, his grandparents, aunts and uncles, providing dates of birth, marriage and death. This letter and its supplements are a trove of information.
She states that Ansel Shattuck, born August 10, 1870, married Rachel Berry (sp?) of Pompey and had 9 children, one of whom was Henry Shattuck, born September 18, 1811 in Pompey. He "married Mehetable Knapp of Pompey" in 1831. She died in 1840. They had two children, one of whom was Mary Ann who married Erasmus Hungerford of DeWitt. In 1842, Henry married Sarah Park of Lafayette.

Sadly, the letter indicates that Clara was the last of the Hungerfords since neither she nor Austen's aunts and uncles had any children.
The article has this interesting statement: "George W. Hungerford was an American from head to foot, being a direct decendant [sic] of one of the two Hungerford brothers who landed at Plymouth Rock from the Mayflower." Alas, we know that there was no one on the Mayflower who had the Hungerford surname.
