The information that he relates about his grandfather is worth quoting in full:
My grandfather was also born in Michigan. He was born Robert A. Palmer - father Robert Palmer, mother Mary J. Hungerford. She died in childbirth and he was raised by James A. Hungerford, his mother's brother. He changed his name legally to Hungerford when he became of age. His grandfather (on his mother's side - Hungerford side) was D.A.C. Hungerford, who I believe came from England.
